Warrany Inspection - Protect your investment!
Do you have a Forever Warranty? If you do, you are required to have your RV insepcted annually! Missing your annual inspection date, and geting your form sent back could invalidate your agreement, leaving you unprotected! It is the owners responsability to ensure the proper adherence to the terms and conditions, and I have witnessed first hand how heartbreaking a repair that would have been covered was refused because of a simple delay.
You should have an Annual Maintenance Record Coupon which is a good idea to follow, even if you do not have a Forever Warranty.
Whats is done during an annual inspection?
Inspect roof and seal roof where necessary.
Inspect axles and hub, lube where necessary.
Inspect furnace – clean blower, combustion chamber, control compartment (remove any dust, lint, obstructions) as necessary, test gas line for leaks.
Inspect hot water heater – flush holding tank, manually operate pressure temperature relief valve, clean burner tube (as outlined by the manufacturer) as necessary.
Inspect suspension and lubricate where necessary – grease front and rear suspension components, including, but not limited to, axle bearings, tie rods, control arms, and brake camshaft brackets (motorhomes only)
Membrane Damage: Scratches, gouges from tree branches, or tears from manufacturing defects or wear and tear can compromise the roof’s integrity.- Trapped Debris: Fasteners or nuts sealed under the membrane during installation can create weak spots.
- Loose Trim: Detached trim pieces can lead to air pockets or “bubbles” in the membrane, which may go undetected until significant damage occurs.
- Improper Sealing: Poorly applied sealant around vents, skylights, or appliances can allow water to seep in.
- Dry and cracked sealant.
The Critical Role of Sealant
Sealant is the unsung hero of RV roof maintenance. It’s the primary barrier against water intrusion, and its condition can make or break your RV’s longevity. A thorough inspection involves checking:- Pliability: Sealant exposed to UV rays can become brittle or cracked, losing its effectiveness.
- Pinholes and Cracks: Even the smallest imperfection can allow moisture to penetrate.
- Key Areas: Every vent, fan, trim line, and roof edge must be properly sealed.
- A single pinhole near a plumbing vent or skylight can lead to slow leaks, causing structural damage that’s expensive to repair.

Industry recommendation is every 60 to 90 days. More often if you park under trees, or before or after long road trips, or have been in a violent storm. Again, check your warranty for the specific requirements.
